Monogram Cap Classique
Tasting Notes
Golden in colour, with delicate bubbles and a crisp, dry finish, this wine is crafted using the traditional method and aged for fifteen months on the lees. It is made for celebrations, big or small.
Blend
70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir
Vineyard
The vineyards rest in the foothills of the Stellenbosch mountains, five kilometres away from, and in sight of, the Atlantic Ocean. In the afternoons, a gentle breeze from False Bay rustles the vines, cooling the grapes. Our unique terroir is made up of a variety of soils, including the region’s native ‘koffie klip’ (literally, ‘coffee rock’) which produces wines with elegance and grace.
Harvest
We pick the grapes at 19.5°B to 20.5°B in the coolness of the morning, placing them in small lug boxes to reduce compaction and damage to the fruit. We then hand sort the grapes.
Age of vines: planted in 2011
Clone: Chardonnay CY55; Pinot Noir PN52
Yield: 6 tonnes/ha
Cellar
Bennie Booysen, our winemaker, has been part of the Klein Welmoed team since the beginning. He planted the first vines in 2008, tending to them as they developed. The farm is very close to his heart, and he is passionate about producing wines that truly express the unique terroir.
